OUTFIT OF THE DAY

It’s not the end of January yet, so I’m still hiding in whatever giant clothes I can get my hands one!

ootd13 Sweaterdress: Armani
Leggings: Marks & Spencer
Bag: Prada
Boots: UGG
Headband: Claire’s Accessories
Necklace: Vintage

This is a pretty boring outfit, so the key pieces are definitely the accessories– namely that cute feathered headband and the giant swirly necklace I’m wearing in place of a scarf today. The headband is from Claire’s, of all places, and I think it cost about €3? I love it so much, but it gives me a headache, so every single time I wear it, I take it off in the car on the way home. And then forget about it. There it languishes for months until I remember to bring it up again, and then I wear it out, and the cycle starts anew.

The necklace is a recent addition to my wardrobe; a gift from my aunt for helping her out with some computer woes she’d been having. Isn’t it pretty? I’m absolutely in love with it. I’m pretty sure it’s costume and it’s incredibly heavy on the neck, but it’s so pretty I’m going to wear it tons anyway!

What accessories are you loving at the moment? Do you have any recent fun additions to your wardrobe? Is there any piece in your wardrobe that you love but rarely wear because you keep misplacing it? Drop me a line and let me know!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY

Winter is definitely here, and biting, so I’ve fallen back on the big guns: cashmere shawls and heavy jackets! I had so surrender my lighter leather jacket for this heavier, fleece-lined option… Which actually belongs to my Mum. Mum suffers from the cold even worse than I do (if you can imagine that), so for her, this is actually a spring jacket, not the winter coat it seems to me! Silver lining, though: I get to keep it until it warms enough that she can cast off her blanket-coat and jump into this, at which point I’ll move back to my usual (lighter) jacket. Everyone wins when mother and daughter end up the same clothes size! 😀

ootd22 Jacket: Barneys
Shawl: Hermes
Jumper: Tommy Hilfiger
Bag: Prada
Jeans: 7 For All Mankind
Boots: UGG

Probably not my best look, but as I was wandering the streets of Dublin in this, it kept me pleasantly warm, which was what was needed! I’m also giving my new birthday bag is inaugural outing. It’s a little stiffer than my older one, which will take some getting used to, but I think it will loosen up a little bit over time– and until then, I’m very happy with how it looks!

Are you all set up for Christmas yet? Are all your cards written, and all your pressies wrapped? Are you looking forward to the festive season, or just looking forward to it all being over? Drop me a line and let me know!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY

It is nice to be able to take these again without cowering in the elevator! Off to Dundrum in this, so fortunately I don’t have to wrap up too warm despite this bitter winter weather…

 ootd2 Jacket: Vintage
Sweater: M&S
Pants: Under Armour
Bag: Prada
Scarf: Hermes
Shoes: Prada

I know it’s only December, but I can’t help hoping winter ends early this year! I hate wearing too many layers. Mum keeps giving me a hard time about not wearing heavier coats, but I just hate being weighed down by all that extra material!

I really do love this sweater, though; the pattern is really pretty, but it’s low-key enough that I don’t feel it’s too obvious or draws too much attention when I wear it. Still, I think it looks best with a plain scarf, so that’s what I’ve paired it with here. This scarf is probably one of my favourites: plain black, but printed with the Ex Libris pattern so it has a subtle shimmer, it’s really versatile and goes with most things in my wardrobe.

What accessories are you pairing with your prints this season? Are you wishing for winter to end? Or are you a fan of chilly weather cover-ups? Drop me a line and let me know!

BIRTHDAY BONANZA!

Happy Birthday to me! I am now unsettlingly old (although let’s be real: that happened before yesterday), so here’s a cavalcade of beautiful things I can slap on  myself to distract from my impending decrepitude, okay?

Best. Presents. Ever. I also got a few bob from generous aunts and uncles, a pen, a little makeup bag, and of course my trip to Atlanta this summer. I’m not even going to play at humble bragging: I have the best family ever, and my mother is a fucking superstar who wants only to make me happy and is delighted to let me pick my own presents to be squirreled away for wrapping and presentation on the day of my birthday.

We had a lovely quiet day at home; Mum came over and put my presents under the tree with the Christmas things I’ve wrapped up but haven’t given to people:

Then we made (well– she made; I stirred the gravy and explained how to use the clock on the cooker) dinner, which was delicious but has left me genuinely terrified to even put a toe on my bathroom scale:

birthday-dinner

This was what passed as a “proper portion” when I was growing up. It’s no wonder I’ve bones like Wolverine! I ate every pick of it, and I am not ashamed. (Afraid of the scale, but not ashamed. There’s a big difference there!)

Then it was time to open pressies! I’m so happy with what I got; I love everything, and all of it is perfect and exactly what I wanted. I confess that I did break into the computer early, but that was largely so I could have it set up by my birthday, and didn’t spend the entire day fiddling with settings and generally being a techy pain in the backside. Here’s a close-up of a few selected items:

clarisonic

I’ve been wanting one of these for ages, and I’m excited to try it. I have god-awful skin (which I’m considering going to the doctor about in the New Year), so I’ll do anything that might make it better. Here’s hoping! I’ll keep you guys posted about how I get along with it.

skincare

There is nothing like L’Occitane handcream for dry skin. Honestly, nothing. I’ve tried E45 in the past and it works pretty well, but I’ve found that nothing does as good a job at keeping my feet pretty as this stuff. However, since they actually do make a separate foot cream, I figured I should give that a go and leave the hand cream for my actual hands? The Creme is a product I used to use, but stopped, though I started again recently and I find that my skin appreciates it as a night cream only. I’m looking forward to breaking into all three of these.

shu

Right, I’ll be honest: this one was kind of an impulse buy. I don’t have a lot of green shadows– which is a shame, because I love them. While waiting around for my mother and her sister to come back from wherever they’d disappeared to, I dabbed on some of the gold shadow on my eyelid over my own makeup, mostly to pass the time.

I only realized later how insanely gorgeous it is, and then went back to get some. The assistant at the counter was busy making up someone else, so I ended up prodding at various other colours while I waited… And then noticed that you could get little 4-pan palettes. I couldn’t pass up the chance to put together a palette of perfect, gorgeous greens to add to my birthday stash!

On the top is #311 White Gold and #595 Dark Green. On the bottom, confusingly, both colours are called Medium Olive. They’re not at all the same, though! The one on the left is #495, and is far darker and more matte than #472 on the right, which is really more of a gold-green. Review and swatches of these babies coming soon! I’m so excited to try them out– and to add to my collection…

tilbury

So remember I was wondering why I hadn’t got any Charlotte Tilbury Face in a Box sets yet? I realized why when I went into the shop: I have way too many duplicate products for any of the box sets to be practical for me. In any box, there are a good few products I either wouldn’t use or already have dupes for, so I ended up picking and choosing the bits that filled gaps in my personal collection.

I picked up the eye palettes from the Rock Chick and Uptown Girl looks, the lip glosses from the Ingenue and the Bombshell ones (the Vintage Vamp one I thought I’d love was far too dark in person– let that be a lesson!), and as the face powder from none of the looks. I’m still contemplating blusher and highlighter, but we’ll see how I get on with these.

urban-decay

It’s December, so time to strap yourself in for limited edition UD palette sets! I don’t have any of the previous Vice palettes, so I am super excited to try this one out. The Naked on the Run set is less of a new invention for me, but the colours are really pretty and I’m looking forward to trying out the gloss and the mascara without having to shell out for them separately. I’m less excited about the bronzer (it’s quite orange for me), but the blusher also looks good, and I think this will be handy to carry around for holidays and things!

After that, we just sat around and watched Labyrinth. It’s my favourite movie ever, and watching it has become something of a birthday tradition going back to when I was five or so. I actually got the Blu-Ray version for this year, and the quality was stellar. Simply gorgeous to watch, and if you haven’t ever seen that movie, do yourself a favour and find a copy, pronto!

I had a really lovely birthday, and I’ll be doing dedicated posts for individual items or sets as I work my way through them, so look out for those in the coming days and weeks.

Birthday season is officially over; let the countdown to Christmas begin! :p

What exciting birthday presents have you gotten this year? Do you feel like birthdays are an unwelcome reminder of the inevitable march of time, or do you embrace them with pride at having added another year to your tally? Is there any of the above items you’d especially like me to discuss in detail? Drop me a line and let me know!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY

I have finally fixed my mirror! Took this before it happened, though, so here’s my final elevator OOTD– I’m sure the neighbours will be delighted to hear it!

 ootd-18 Hat: Aldi
Jacket:
Vintage
Sweaterdress: Armani
Pants: Under Armour
Boots: UGG
Bag: Prada

Off to town in this, so I’m bundled up tightly! I love this fleece hat from Aldi: it’s ridiculously warm and cosy, and despite being fleece, it somehow manages to not give me static-y hat hair when I take it off, which makes it worth its weight in gold in my book.

If you were wondering, this sweaterdress is the same as my black one, bought at the same time in Harvey Nicks a couple of years ago. I wear this one less because I find the colour hard to match things with, but I didn’t fancy an all-black look today, so I brought this one out.

Do you ever buy multiples of the same item in different colours? Or in the same colour so you can rotate them and make them last longer? Or do you find there are just so many things out there that you love for it to make no sense for you to double up? Drop me a line and let me know!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY

Another OOTD, another elevator photo. I REALLY need to get my mirror situation sorted out, don’t I?

 ootd03 Hat: Hermes
Coat:
Dunnes
Sweaterdress: Armani
Leggings: M&S
Shirt: Primark
Boots: UGG
Shawl: Hermes
Bag: Prada

You know it’s winter when my list of items doubles in length, sigh. Breaking out my trusty red winter coat here– a sale purchase in Dunnes some years ago but which I still adore. It has a really cute cut and I haven’t seen too many like it. I usually pair it with my favourite Hermes felt and velvet hat because it has a red inner trim, which you can just see peeking out from behind my giant phone.

Fully unseen is the Primark thermal undershirt I’m wearing, and my god, does that save my bacon during the winter. When it’s just not possible to wear a turtleneck, this absolutely does the business, and they are cheap as chips. I can wholeheartedly recommend them!

Have you rediscovered your winter best? Do you love layering? What winter accessories are you rocking recently?  Drop me a line and let me know!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY

The good weather has definitely departed, and it’s time to bundle up warm. Alas, with the ongoing Ebola scare, I’m not in any hurry to embark on International air travel, so I’m stuck with Ireland’s terrible weather for the foreseeable future.

ootd28 Jacket: Vintage
Shawl: Hermes
Polo: Dunnes
Jumper: Tommy Hilfiger
Bag: Hermes
Jeans: Armani
Shoes: Prada

I love these jeans, but because I’m short and they’re long, I only get to wear them when I’m wearing heels. These hidden wedge Prada sneakers were picked up in the BT sale this January, and I absolutely adore them. They’re not as comfortable as Uggs or even normal runners, but they’re infinitely more comfortable than any other heels you might want to try.

This bag is also a favourite: it’s stylish while also being practical– gotta love those cross-body straps! Hopefully I’ll get my mirror situation squared up soon, but until then, you’ll just have to make do with my terrible elevator photography.

Have you dug out your winter wear yet? Do you also struggle with too-long pants?  Are you rocking seasonal neutrals or brightening up with colours? Drop me a line and let me know!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY

Been a while since I did one of these! Apologies for slacking on the blogging front lately; my life has been a whirlwind of all sorts of things I’m looking forward to posting about soon. In the mean time, I’m going to share some outfits I’ve been wearing recently! Off to lunch for my aunt’s birthday in this one, so thought I should fancy it up a little!

ootd16 Sweater: M&S
T-Shirt: Oasis
Leggings: M&S
Sneakers: Prada
Bag: Hermes
Scarf: Hermes

I quite like this look, because it’s casual enough for lunch (and comfortable enough for long car rides), but the high-end accessories give it enough punch to just about qualify as fancy! I really wish I had more Birkins– they make such an excellent tote, and the 30 size is just perfect for me in terms of carrying around my everyday needs. If only they weren’t so expensive.. And hard to get hold of! I’ve been trying to get my hands on a navy one for about three years now, to no avail. Back on the list now, I think, so I shall cross my fingers and see what happens…

What items are you waiting for now right now? What’s your dream handbag? What accessories are you loving at the moment? Drop me a line and let me know!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY

Stupid feet! Between the weather and my feet, I don’t know what to do with my clothes these days. I’m very restricted in what footwear I can use at the moment, and I’ve ended up wearing these little Chinese slippers a lot lately.

ootd20 Shirt: Primark
Vest: H&M
Leggings: H&M
Sandals: Ebay
Bag: Prada

At only €3 a pair, these are a super bargain. They’re lightweight enough to toss into a suitcase without having to worry about excess weight, and they’re incredibly easy to wear. I don’t think they’re the most stylish of items, but I’ve had a crazy amount of compliments on them this week, so I can’t complain too much!

I’m also really loving this little shirt from Primark which I picked up a little while ago. I really love the soft pinks and teals in it, which contrast nicely against my penchant for blacks. It’s also light and floaty– which is exactly what you need on a summer’s day when you can’t wear anything heavy because it’s so warm outdoors, but you may have to sit indoors where it’s cooler for a long period of time, too.

What bargains are you loving lately? Would you dare to wear flats if your feet demanded it? What summer colours are you embracing? Drop me a line and let me know!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY

Out for lunch with the family in this– wanted something simple and low-key since we were going to be driving for hours beforehand! All silver accessories here, and although the bag and sneakers were purchased many seasons apart, I really do love how well they go together.

ootd22 Sweater: A-Wear
Leggings: H&M
T-Shirt: Oasis
Bag: Prada
Sneakers: Prada

These leggings are really old and the silvery bits at the side are in constant danger of falling off, but I just can’t bring myself to part with them!

Do you have any clothes you can’t let go of? Do you factor car trips into your outfits? Do you like single-metal accessories, or are you a mix-and-matcher? Drop me a line and let me know!
